Front line workers in social service positions are increasingly called upon to work with families affected by psychiatric disabilities in parents. This presentation will provide strategies to effectively work with parents with mental health issues. We will explore the prevalence of parents with
psychiatric disabilities within the child welfare system; strategies to build trust while supporting and educating parents and their children; and consciousness raising about how psychiatric disabilities are experienced by parents and children.
Trainer: Beth Bitler, MSA, CFLE Beth is the Program Director at Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance and she provides training and technical assistance to a statewide program of child abuse prevention programs. She has worked with parents for more than fifteen years and is the author of several parenting educational materials and the author of "Building Your Family" parenting curriculum. In this presentation she blends her background in parent education with herpersonal story as a mental health consumer.
