One of the key programs offered through Project Child is Parenting Education Classes. An underlying idea to these classes is to understand that families consist of ever-changing individuals at different stages of life. The mission of the classes is to explore the common challenges and overall dynamics of Lehigh Valley families by sharing tools, offering understanding, and helping families find support.
The Parenting Education Classes aim to prevent child abuse by teaching parents the skills necessary to adjust to new roles, problems, or changes in family circumstances. The classes are open to the public and parents are able to take the classes to fill any court-mandated obligation. Some topics included in each weekly session include stages in child development, communication, and effective discipline. This nine class series is offered every Wednesday evening from 7:00-8:30PM.
In 2008 alone, the parenting education classes reached more than 90 parents, affecting an estimated 200 children.
Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Parents must call to register first. Walk-ins will not be allowed during certain sessions. At the completion of all nine sessions a certificate will be issued. Certificates are recognized by area courts and children and youth agencies.
In order to register for classes, call the Project Child office at 610-954-9561 X 37.
The cost is $52.00 for all nine sessions.
Classes are taught in English.
